New Hire: Ryan Uhl

Fennell Brothers Baseball Welcomes Ryan Uhl

Former All-American, Seattle Mariners draft pick and experienced collegiate coach joins the Fennell player-development staff

Fennell Brothers Baseball is excited to welcome Ryan Uhl to our organization in a player-development role.

Ryan brings a rare combination of high-level playing experience, professional baseball experience and an extensive collegiate coaching background. Throughout his career, he has developed a strong reputation for his knowledge of hitting, defensive development and the work required to help players reach the next level.

Ryan played collegiately at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he became one of the most accomplished players in the history of the program. His senior season in 2015 was one of the most dominant offensive seasons in NCAA Division II baseball.

That year, Ryan hit .415 with 29 home runs, 74 RBIs and a 1.085 slugging percentage. His 29 home runs set both IUP and PSAC single-season records, while his slugging percentage, home runs per game and RBIs per game ranked among the best in the country.

Ryan earned First-Team All-American recognition from both the American Baseball Coaches Association and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. He was also a finalist for the Tino Martinez Award, which recognizes the top player in NCAA Division II baseball, and was named the 2014–15 IUP Men’s Athlete of the Year.

He finished his IUP career with program records for career home runs and slugging percentage. In recognition of everything he accomplished as a Crimson Hawk, Ryan was selected as a member of the 2026 IUP Athletic Hall of Fame class.

Following his college career, Ryan was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the seventh round of the 2015 MLB Draft. He spent two seasons in the Mariners’ minor-league system, including time with the Everett AquaSox and Arizona League Mariners.

After his playing career, Ryan transitioned into coaching and player development. His collegiate coaching résumé includes stops at IUP, California University of Pennsylvania, Penn State Behrend and Gannon University. He also served as the hitting coach for the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks during the summer of 2019.

Ryan has been part of several successful and record-setting programs throughout his coaching career. In 2019, he helped Cal U establish a school record with 37 wins. Later that summer, the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks finished with the best regular-season record in franchise history.

At Penn State Behrend, Ryan helped the program win the 2021 AMCC Championship and earn its first regional victory since 2010. He then joined Gannon’s coaching staff and helped the Golden Knights capture a PSAC West regular-season championship and advance to the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional.

Throughout those stops, Ryan has worked closely with hitters, infielders and outfielders while also contributing to recruiting and overall player development. His experience as an elite college player, professional draft pick and successful coach gives him a valuable understanding of what players need at every stage of their development.

Adding Ryan to Fennell Brothers Baseball is another important step in our commitment to providing players with knowledgeable instruction, proven development methods and coaches who understand what it takes to compete at the highest levels.

We are thrilled to have Ryan joining the Fennell family and look forward to the impact he will make on our players and programs.

Ryan’s lesson schedule is now open to begin giving lessons at our Wildwood location in September!

Welcome to Fennell Brothers Baseball, Ryan!
